Catodon is a fork of Misskey that brings together the best features of Sharkey, Firefish and Iceshrimp, and adds what none of them has: Lemmy-compatible forums and federated blogs. Microblogging, forums and blogs live in one place, and it is built to make communities easier to run, easier to understand, and more comfortable to use every day.

Highlights

  • Forums. Federated forums (ActivityPub Group Actors), with voting, Hot/Active/New sorting, moderation tools, and interoperability with Lemmy, PieFed, NodeBB and more platforms. Discover more of them through Explore and Search, which can display thousands of forums/communities through Catodon's Threadiverse Catalog.
  • Blogs and Pages. Long-form publishing with RSS feeds, drafts, scheduled posts and per-blog themes, federated as ActivityPub Articles, and unfederated Pages, both with a convenient WYSIWYG editor.
  • Take back your timelines. Choose what your Home timeline shows, arrange your own tabs, and sync them across devices. Includes Media (masonry and immersive), RSS, a two-column Accounts timeline, Custom feeds, Lists and hashtag following.
  • Mastodon-compatible. A native Mastodon API, so Mastodon and Pixelfed apps work, with filters, featured tags, live notifications, trending links and more. Quote posts federate through FEP-044f.
  • Accounts on other servers. Sign in with, or sign up an account on, other servers that speak the Misskey or Mastodon API, including Pixelfed, GoToSocial and Akkoma, all in the same account switcher.
  • Direct Messages. Chat-style threads, with archived conversations, search and reactions.
  • Rich media. Carousels, a floating video player, HEIC support, HLS playback of PeerTube videos, and automatic alt text through Altbot.
  • Simpler and less cluttered. Plainer terminology for people new to the Fediverse, fewer default timelines and fewer buttons on posts, and the rarely used inherited features, such as Channels, Gallery, Clips and Play, are gone.
  • Everywhere. Right-to-left languages, an installable PWA with push notifications, and keyboard navigation throughout.
