Private accounts and follow requests
Approve each follower before they can see your followers-only posts.
5 essential features · 5 added since the fork
Approve each follower before they can see your followers-only posts.
Hide or block accounts, mute their reposts, and (new) mute only their replies.
Minimize or completely hide posts containing words or phrases you choose.
Hide or block a whole server for your own account.
Protect sign-in with an authenticator app, security key or passkey; a server role can make it mandatory.
Settings → Mutes and blocks gains a Blocked servers section beside the muted ones. It lists the servers you have blocked, unblocks them one by one, and takes a new host to block.
A mute hides what a server sends you. A block also removes the follows in both directions, withdraws the requests waiting in either, and refuses new follows for as long as it lasts. That part cannot be undone, so a warning naming the server and counting what is about to go comes first.
A filter now has a name, a set of words, the screens it applies on, what to do with a post that matches — fold it behind a notice, remove it, or cover its attachments and leave the text readable — and, if you want one, a date it stops. Your two existing lists become the first two filters, so nothing you already filter changes.
Beside Mute Reposts, an account's menu now has Mute Replies: its replies to other people leave every timeline, while its own posts, threads, reposts, replies to you and messages stay. Settings > Mutes and Blocks lists the accounts whose replies you muted, and apps have reply-mute/create, reply-mute/delete and reply-mute/list, with isReplyMuted on a user's relation.
Signed in to Catodon with a Mastodon account, a remote account's menu now offers Block this server, and Settings > Mutes and Blocks lists the blocked servers with a field to add one. Blocks go through Mastodon's own domain blocks, so they are the same ones Mastodon's apps show, and what they do beyond hiding is up to the account's server. It is offered on Mastodon since 1.4, Akkoma and compatible servers.
